ヒツジの毛刈り（和訳①）
Saturday 1st ５月１日（日）
Today was very hot and as usual I had forgotten to bring a hat or sunscreen.
今日はいつものようにとっても暑かったのに帽子と日焼け止めを持ってくるのを忘れたー
First up today was Chosuke with Goto doing the shearing.
今日はGoto君が長介を毛刈りした。
The day before we had prepared the sheep by shaving the difficult areas such as the belly and the neck so today we could shave the easier areas such as the side and back.
昨日のうちに、ヒツジのお腹や首などの刈るのが難しい場所を刈っておいたので、今日は横や背中などの簡単な場所を刈ったよ。
We were having a few problems with the clippers the day before and unfortunately for Goto and Choske the problem continued today.
昨日バリカンがちょっと使いづらかったんだけど、不幸なことにGoto君と長介には今日もだめだった。
This made it a little uncomfortable for Choske because the clippers tend to pull at the wool rather than just cut.
これ長介にはよくなかった。なぜならバリカンは刈るよりも毛を引っ張っていたから。
(I know how uncomfortable this can be because I shave my own head twice a month!)
（もしスムーズならすごく気持ちがいいのをワタシはよく知っている。なぜって１カ月に２回は自分の頭をまるめているから！）
After shearing one side of Choske, we flipped him over and let everyone have a go with the clippers.
長介の片側を刈った後は長介をひっくり返して、みんなでバリカンでゴー
This went well with most people very curious about the process.
ほどんどの人たちが上手に刈ってくれて、興味深そうに見ていたよ。
I can only imagine how strange and out of the ordinary it must be to see a sheep being shaved considering the life that most people lead.
たぶんほとんどの人たちの生活から「ヒツジの毛刈り」はかけ離れたものだから、不思議なんだろうね。
Next up was Lamb House (a nic-name we gave to the sheep on lend from the Lamb House) and me!
次はラムハウスちゃん（ラムハウスというところから借りてきたからつけたあだ名）とワタシ！
I was a little worried that I was going to have the same problem as Goto with the clippers but with a little tinkering and a lot of oil the clippers started to cut like a hot knife through butter.
Gotoくんのバリカンみたいになるんじゃないかと少し心配したんだけど、少し調整してバリカンに油をさしたら「熱いナイフがバターを切る」ようによく切れるようになったよ。
Lamb Houses wool was a lot cleaner than Choske so I guess this also made a difference.
ラムハウスちゃんの毛が長介よりもきれいだったのもよかったんだと思う。
Once again we shaved one side, flipped her over then let everyone have a go at shearing.
また片側を刈ってからひっくり返して、みんなに刈ってもらった。
It was great to see everyone (especially the kids) very enthusiastic about having a go.
毛刈りに熱中しているみんな（とくに子どもたち）を見れたのはよかったな。
It was also nice to see how concerned most people were for the sheep's well being but I can assure you that this is only a once a year event for the sheep and once it finished they soon forget!
またみんなが「ヒツジはだいじょうぶかなぁ」と心配しているのを見られてうれしかった。毛刈りは１年間に１回のイベントだし、ヒツジたちは刈られたことなどすぐに忘れてしまうから大丈夫だよ。
